The best butterfly discovery of the year actually happened on screen. On the first day of the New Year I enjoyed recently taken images of my good friend, Balazs Horvath, when suddenly this picture jumped-up on his screen. Balazs is not a butterfly person at all, he took this picture only by chance during a small hiking tour with his girlfriend to Szarsomlyo Hill, one of our southernmost reserve, famous about its special thermofil mediterranean flora and fauna. This is the spot for our only Whip Snakes, Cirl Buntings... Blue Rock Thrush recorded here recently, and it is one of the best spot for wintering Wallcreepers. The hill also the holding some 15 flowers unique to Hungary, and having some rare insects as well, just like the endemic winter moths, Polymixis rufocincta isolata, described in 1981 only. So, what is on the picture? This is False Comma, the only picture ever taken in Hungary, and the first reliable record for decades. Congratulation for Balazs, indeed!
